Testimonial

"We had been thinking for quite sometime about installing Solar Panels, and the information provided about the cash-back schemes and the details of a reliable local installer was the spur that we needed. We were attracted by the offer of working with a Council recommended installer, and Rockwarm did an excellent job throughout the installation. The work carried out was to a high standard, the installation team took the time to explain how the systems work and the information pack containing details of all the different parts of the systems was superb."

How does Solar Thermal work?

How it works

The system uses solar panels, referred to as collectors, which you have fitted to the roof of your home. These solar panels collect heat from the sun during the day to heat water which is then stored in a twin-coil hot water cylinder.

There are currently two types of solar water heating collectors (panels) that you attach to the roof. Either a flat plate collector, which look like more traditional solar panels, or evacuated tube collectors which is a line of tubing attached together.

It’s currently not the cheapest technology, but there are sufficient benefits of installing solar water heating.

Firstly, it will provide your household with hot water throughout the year. It won’t be a completely independent system though as it will need a boiler or immersion-heater through the winter months to guarantee you have hot water all year round. (The cylinder thermostat should be set at 60 degrees centigrade.)

The benefits of solar water heating

  • Hot water throughout the year: the system works all year round, though you’ll need to heat the water further with a boiler or immersion heater during the winter months.
  • Cut your bills: sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your hot water costs will be reduced.
  • Cut your carbon footprint: solar hot water is a green, renewable heating system and can reduce your carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Payback within just 6-12 years, and with a life expectancy of over 35 years, Genersys solar water heating is an attractive return on investment. As the market leading product Rockwarm recommend the Genersys panel.
  • Beautifully integrated and made of high quality materials, quality solar panels will add value to your property too.
  • Energy Independence – Using solar power you will be less dependent on gas supply and the rising fuel prices.
