Residents living in Tamworth have until the end of December to book to have energy-saving loft and cavity wall insulation installed at their homes completely free of charge.

Every single resident living in the Tamworth Borough Council area – whether a homeowner or renting property – can get the insulation installed free of charge. The offer is open to everyone living in the borough, regardless of age or income and applicants do not need to be in receipt of benefit.

The free insulation measures – which can help residents stay warmer at home in the winter and cooler in the summer, while keeping fuel bills down – are being made available through the HEAT freephone line.

Anyone living in Tamworth who would like free loft and cavity wall insulation should call HEAT on 0800 043 2815. The offer is time limited and work must be booked with the insulation contractor by December 30th although it can be carried out after this date.

The offer is open to everyone living in Tamworth, but only where there is less than 60mm of existing insulation. The insulation measures are free for homes where the cavity is up to 120 square metres or 90 square metres for the loft. If a home is bigger, then the householder will have to pay the difference.

The insulation measures will save each householder up to £270 on their fuel bills each year and will reduce carbon emissions by 3,200 tonnes over 25 years.

Cllr Mary Oates, Cabinet member for Quality of Life, said: “It is great news that so many residents are taking up this offer. Installing energy efficiency measures is an effective way of reducing heating bills, as well as being good for the environment.

“I would encourage all residents who have not yet contacted HEAT – whether they own their own homes or rent them from the council, registered social landlords or privately – to take advantage of this offer and have insulation fitted before the winter months. Fuel bills will be reduced and you’ll be doing your bit to help reduce carbon emissions as well, which is good for the environment.”
